Food for Thought

Rob Oakeshott (pictured) and Julia Gillard staged an impromptu musical number this afternoon as part of their announcement that Mr Oakeshott had declined the bribe of a ministry position in the Gillard minority government. Apparently even "Independents" have their limits.

(Oakeshott)

"I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

I'd unravel any riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain."

(Gillard)
"With the thoughts you'd be hoardin'
You could be really movin' forward
If you only had a brain"

(Oakeshott)
"Oh, I would tell you why
The ocean's near the shore
I could think of things I never thunk before
And then I'd sit and think some more
I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain."

The press conference ended without any questions being taken.

Why No Sane Person Should Ever Vote Labor Again

Proving the old adage: "If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas".

The Australian Greens, through their wholly-owned subsidiary, the Australian Labor Party, can be seen celebrating their new-found opportunity for Moving Forward on the following policies:

The Australian Greens will:
22. reduce inequities in the current personal tax system by:
  • abolishing the 30% Private Health Insurance Rebate in order to increase funding for public hospitals;
  • taxing family trusts in the same way as companies;
  • introduce a new top marginal tax rate of 50 per cent on incomes of $1 million or over.
23. introduce an estate tax with full provisions to protect the family farm, the family home and small business with a threshold of $5 million with idexation.

29. return the company tax rate to 33% and broaden the company tax base by reducing tax concessions.
